The Coves dels Hams are amazing caves found on the eastern coast of Mallorca. This Spanish island is part of the Balearic Islands. The caves are located near the town of Porto Cristo, in the area called Manacor.
These caves are a popular place for tourists to visit. They are often explored along with the even bigger Coves del Drach, also known as the "Cavern of the Dragon." Both cave systems are famous attractions in eastern Mallorca.

Discovering the Coves dels Hams
The Coves dels Hams were first discovered on March 2, 1905. A person named Pedro Caldentey found them. These caves are located on the road between the main city of Manacor and the coastal town of Porto Cristo.
What Makes the Caves Special?
Just like the Coves del Drach, the Coves dels Hams have an underground lake. This lake is famously called "The Sea of Venice." The caves get their unique name from the shapes of their stalactites and stalagmites. The word Hams comes from the local language of Mallorca, called Mallorquí. It means "fishhooks" or "harpoons." Scientists are still trying to figure out why these rock formations look so unusual.
Exploring the Caves Today
Lorenzo Caldentey, the son of the discoverer, is a skilled diver. He helped set up an electric lighting system inside the caves. This system is used for tours and special performances.
Guided Tours and Shows
Visitors can join multilingual tour guides for a walk of about 500 meters. The tour goes through 12 different areas of the caves. Today, visitors can also enjoy a special "Magical Mozart" concert. This concert includes a beautiful light show. Musicians perform on a small rowboat with candle-lit railings. They float on "The Sea of Venice" during the show. The Coves dels Hams are a very popular spot for tourists, especially during the summer months.
