A Look Back at Cowan
Cowan started in 1869. This was when a railroad line reached the area. The community was named after Charles McCowan. He was a resident who helped pay for a church and a school.
What's Happening in Cowan?
Cowan used to have a special event called the Cowan Street Light Festival. This festival helped raise money for the town's street lights. People would sell things at booths to collect funds. However, this festival no longer takes place.

The schools in Cowan are managed by the Cowan Community School Corporation. This group used to be called the Monroe Community School Corporation. The elementary school, which teaches students from kindergarten to 6th grade, has a good rating. The high school, for grades 7 through 12, also serves the community.
