History of Coyoteville
Coyoteville began during the exciting time of the California Gold Rush. This was a period when many people rushed to California hoping to find gold.
How Coyoteville Got Its Name
The town started on the eastern part of a place called Lost Hill. This area was very rich with gold, especially in its gravel hills. During the Gold Rush, a special way of digging for gold was developed here. It was called "coyoteing." Miners would dig tunnels into the ground, much like a coyote digs its den. This unique tunneling method gave the town its interesting name.
Coyoteville's Later Years
As time went on, Coyoteville grew and changed. In later years, it became part of a larger city nearby. Today, Coyoteville is known as the northwestern section of Nevada City.
