Craig Salvatori was born on January 22, 1966. He is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played in the 1980s and 1990s. Craig spent most of his playing career with the Eastern Suburbs club. He mainly played in the front row position. Salvatori also played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He even represented his state, New South Wales, and his country, Australia.
Playing Career: Craig Salvatori's Rugby Journey
In 1985, Craig Salvatori joined the Eastern Suburbs team. He started playing in the top professional league in 1986. During his time with Easts, Salvatori played over 100 games for the club. He was also captain for many of these matches.
Salvatori was a strong and energetic player in the front row. He was known for his skill and speed, scoring 21 tries during his career. In 1991, Salvatori won the prestigious Dally M Medal award. This award recognized him as the Front Rower of the Year. Towards the end of his playing days, Salvatori had several knee injuries. He played his final year of first-grade rugby with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Representative Career: Playing for State and Country
In 1991, Craig Salvatori was chosen to play for Australia. He played in two matches against the New Zealand team. Later that year, he was selected for the Australian tour of Papua New Guinea. However, an injury in the first game of the tour stopped him from playing in any of the main test matches. This was the last time Salvatori was selected to play for Australia.
Salvatori also played for New South Wales. He was a reserve player in five games in a row:
- Game III of the 1991 State of Origin series
- Games I, II, and III of the 1992 State of Origin series. He scored a try in Game I.
- Game I of the 1993 State of Origin series
Life After Playing: Coaching and More
After he retired from playing, Salvatori started coaching rugby league teams. He focused on helping newer rugby league nations. He coached the Italian team in the 1997 World Sevens competition. He also coached them in the 1999 Mediterranean Cup competition.

In 2001, Salvatori was honored as a reserve player in the Indigenous Team of the Century. This special team was captained by the legendary player Artie Beetson.
Today, Craig Salvatori manages a guest house in Byron Bay.
