Craig Salvatori was born on January 22, 1966. He is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played during the 1980s and 1990s.
Craig spent most of his playing career with the Eastern Suburbs club. He was known for playing in the front row position. Salvatori also played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He represented both Australia and New South Wales in important matches.
Craig Salvatori's Playing Career
Craig Salvatori started his rugby league journey in 1985. He joined the Eastern Suburbs club from the Dunbar Hotel team. He first played in the top league in 1986.
During his time with Eastern Suburbs, Craig played over 100 games. He often served as the team captain. He was a strong and energetic player in the front row. Despite his size, he was also skillful and quite fast. He managed to score 21 tries during his career. In the 1991 season, Craig Salvatori won a special award. He received the Dally M award for Front Rower of the Year. Towards the end of his playing days, Craig had several knee injuries. He spent his last year playing for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Representing His State and Country
In 1991, Craig Salvatori was chosen to play for Australia. He played in two matches against the New Zealand team. Later that year, he was also selected for the Australian tour of Papua New Guinea. However, he got injured in the very first game of the tour. This injury meant he could not play in any of the main test matches. This was the last time Craig Salvatori was selected to play for Australia.
Craig also represented New South Wales. He was a reserve player in five important matches in a row:
- Game III of the 1991 State of Origin series.
- Games I, II, and III of the 1992 State of Origin series. He scored a try in Game I of this series.
- Game I of the 1993 State of Origin series.
Life After Playing Rugby League
After retiring from playing, Craig Salvatori became a coach. He helped coach rugby league teams from developing nations. He coached the Italian team. He led them in the 1997 World Sevens competition. He also coached them in the 1999 Mediterranean Cup competition.

In 2001, Craig Salvatori received another honor. He was named as a reserve player in the Indigenous Team of the Century. This special team was captained by the legendary player Artie Beetson.
Today, Craig Salvatori runs a guest house. It is located in Byron Bay, a popular town in Australia.
