Craigmillar Park Church is a historic building located in the Newington area of Edinburgh, Scotland. For many years, it was a church that belonged to the Church of Scotland. The main church building was built in 1879, and a hall next to it was added in 1899.

On June 23, 2024, the church held its last service as a Church of Scotland congregation. The building is now part of a new church group called Newington Trinity. This new group includes Mayfield Salisbury and Priestfield Churches. The Mayfield Salisbury building is now the main place for worship for this new group.

The Church Building

The Craigmillar Park Church building does not have a tall tower or a spire. However, it is located on a very busy road in Edinburgh. This road stretches from Princes Street through Newington.

Right next to the church is the Royal Blind School. The minister of the church also served as the Chaplain for this school. In the church garden, there is a special memorial. This memorial remembers people from the local area who lost their lives in the First World War.

A Look at History

The church building was first known as Mayfield Parish Church. Later, another church, Mayfield Free Church, joined the Church of Scotland. To tell them apart, "North" and "South" were added to their names.

The current church group came together in 1966. This happened when the former Craigmillar Park and Mayfield South churches decided to unite. Worship then took place in the Mayfield South building. This building then took on the name of the former Craigmillar Park Church.

The original Craigmillar Park Church building opened in 1899. It was first a Free Church congregation. In 1976, it became Buchanan House, which was part of the St. Margaret's School. After the school closed, the building became the Iqra Academy, which is a mosque.

In July 2010, there were 266 members of Craigmillar Park Church.

On June 11, 2019, a minister named Rev. Alex McAspurren started leading both Craigmillar Park Church and Reid Memorial Church. These two churches had been linked together the year before.

As mentioned, the church held its final service as a Church of Scotland congregation on June 23, 2024. A new parish, Newington Trinity, was then created. This new group uses the Mayfield Salisbury building for its services.

The Organ

The church has a large pipe organ with three keyboards. This organ was originally built in 1892. The church group used a hymn book called "Church Hymnary 4th edition." Sometimes, they also used other songs and hymns.
