Mohan Rangachari (born October 16, 1952 – died June 10, 2019) was an Indian artist. He was known as Crazy Mohan. He was an actor, comedian, writer, and playwright. Mohan was an engineer. He started writing plays and formed his own drama group. It was called "Crazy Creations" in 1979.

Mohan wrote for many plays and TV shows. He also wrote funny lines for comedy films. He wrote over 30 plays and worked on more than 40 films. He even had small acting parts in these films. Mohan also wrote 100 short stories. In 2004, the Tamil Nadu government gave him the Kalaimamani award. This award is for great work in arts and literature.

Mohan studied at the College of Engineering, Guindy. He became a mechanical engineer in 1973. Before writing full-time, he worked at Sundaram - Clayton Limited.

In 1972, Mohan wrote his first short play. It was called Great Bank Robbery. He won an award for Best Writer. Then, he wrote plays for his younger brother Maadhu Balaji's drama group. His first full-length play was Crazy Thieves in Paalavakkam in 1976. It was a huge success. This play gave him the nickname "Crazy" Mohan.

In 1979, Mohan started his own group, Crazy Creations. They have created over 30 plays. They have performed more than 6,500 shows across India and other countries. His play Chocolate Krishna was performed 500 times in just three years. His brother, Maadhu Balaji, acts as the main character in all his plays.

Mohan also wrote for movies. His first film was Poikkal Kudhirai in 1983. He wrote the dialogues for this film. It was based on his play Marriage made in Saloon. He wrote funny lines for many comedy films. Many of these films starred Kamal Haasan. Some famous ones include Michael Madana Kama Rajan and Panchathanthiram. He also acted in small roles in the films he wrote.

In 1989, he started making TV comedy shows. Some of his shows were Here is Crazy and Kalyanathukku Kalyanam. He also wrote Vidathu Sirippu, which won an award for Best Comedy Serial in 2005. Mohan also wrote 100 short stories.

Mohan was also a talented artist. He drew and painted nearly 60 beautiful pictures. These included portraits of spiritual leaders and famous people.

State Awards

In 2004, the Tamil Nadu government gave him the Kalaimamani title. This was for his excellent work in arts and literature.

International Awards

The Governor of Maryland, USA, gave him a professional excellence award. This was for his great work in Tamil literature, fine arts, and theatre for over 38 years.

Helping Others

Mohan was a generous person. He helped others for over 39 years. He donated money from his drama ticket sales. This money helped people get heart surgeries and kidney transplants.

He also gave donations to the Cancer Institute in Adyar since 1999. The money from his book, 'Crazy about Ramana', helped educate poor children. It taught them about Indian culture and values.

His Death

Mohan felt stomach pain and had trouble breathing on June 10, 2019. He had a heart attack. His brother, Maadhu Balaji, quickly took him to Kauvery Hospital. Doctors tried for hours to save him. But they could not. Mohan was declared dead around 2:00 PM Indian Standard Time that day.
