Crescent is a small community located in Rowan County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is considered a "populated place," meaning people live there, but it's not an officially incorporated town or city.
A Look Back at Crescent's History
Crescent once had its own post office. This post office was open from March 5, 1898, until May 29, 1925. The very first person to be in charge of the mail there was Rev. Dr. J.M.L. Lyerly.
Rev. Lyerly was born in Crescent. He was also the founder and head of the Crescent Academy, which was a school. He was known as an important leader in the Reformed Church in North Carolina.
Since 1868, Crescent has been part of the Gold Hill Township. This change happened because North Carolina's state constitution required all counties to be divided into smaller areas called townships.
