Crescent, South Carolina facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Crescent is a small, unincorporated community located in Spartanburg County, in the state of South Carolina. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county government.

History of Crescent

The community of Crescent has a short but interesting history. A post office was opened there in 1898. This post office served the local residents, helping them send and receive mail. However, it didn't stay open forever. The Crescent post office closed its doors in 1933.

The name "Crescent" comes from a special feature of the nearby Enoree River. A "crescent meander" is a bend in a river that looks like a crescent moon. This natural shape gave the community its unique name.
