Cristina Iglesias, born in 1956, is a famous Spanish artist. She creates amazing sculptures and "installation art." This means she makes art pieces that fill a whole space, often inviting you to walk through them. Cristina uses many different materials. These include strong steel, clear glass, shiny bronze, and even natural things like bamboo and straw. She lives and works near Madrid, Spain.

In 2016, she received a special award called the Tambor del Oro. She was also the first Spanish woman asked to show her art at the Folkestone Triennial in 2011. This is a big art event. Her brother, Alberto Iglesias, is a well-known film music composer.

Growing Up and Becoming an Artist

Cristina Iglesias was born in 1956 in San Sebastián, a city in northern Spain. She first started studying Chemical Sciences in 1976. But she soon realized her true passion was art. In 1978, she left her science studies. She then began to practice ceramics and drawing in Barcelona.

In 1980, Cristina moved to London, England. There, she studied Sculpture at the Chelsea College of Art. While studying, she met her future husband, Juan Muñoz. He was also a sculptor. She also met other important artists like Anish Kapoor.
