About Cristina Jurado
Cristina Jurado was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1972. She studied Advertising and Public Relations at the University of Seville. Later, she earned a master's degree in Rhetoric from Northwestern University in Illinois, USA. Today, she lives in Dubai.
Her Writing Journey
Cristina started her writing career with her first novel, Del Naranja al Azul, in 2012. People called it "Mediterranean science fiction." After that, she wrote many short stories. These stories appeared in different collections and fan magazines, known as fanzines.
In 2017, she published a shorter novel called CloroFilia. She describes this story as "post-apocalyptic and weird." It explores ideas about group madness and what it means to be human. Also in 2017, Cristina won an Ignotus Award. This award was for her short story "La segunda muerte del padre." It was published in a collection called Cuentos desde el Otro Lado.
Her Work as an Editor
Cristina is also a very active editor. She leads the digital magazine Supersonic. She also helps publish many anthologies, which are books with stories by different authors.
She started Supersonic magazine in 2015. The magazine includes both fiction (made-up stories) and nonfiction (true stories). It features works in both Spanish and English. Supersonic has become a place for new Spanish science fiction writers to share their work. The magazine has won several awards.
In 2016, Supersonic won the European Science Fiction Society's award for Best Fanzine. In 2017, it won the award for Best Magazine. It also won the Ignotus Award for Best Magazine. One of Cristina's own articles, "Antologías de ciencia ficción en España," won the Ignotus Award for Best Article.
Cristina has also edited special anthologies like Alucinadas. These books have two volumes. They help readers discover science fiction writers, both new and well-known.
She has worked with international publishers too. For example, she was a guest editor for the North American Apex Magazine in 2015. That issue, number 76, focused on international fiction. In 2017, Apex hired her as their editor for international fiction. She started this role in January 2018. Cristina's work in promoting authors has been featured in newspapers like El País and El Salto.
