Croc Drop is an exciting SBF Visa drop tower ride. It opened in Spring 2021 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. You can find it in the Forbidden Kingdom area of the park. The ride's fun slogan is: 'Brave the drop, Release the curse'.

What is Croc Drop?

Croc Drop is a thrilling ride that lifts you high into the air. Then, it suddenly drops you down! It's a type of ride called a "drop tower". This ride is made by a company called SBF Visa Group.

How the Ride Works

The ride has a special seating area called a gondola. This gondola has 16 seats for riders. It slowly lifts you up a tall tower. When you reach the top, you suddenly drop back down! Brakes slow you down as you get near the bottom.

Croc Drop has some cool extra features. The gondola spins around as it drops. It also bounces a few times before it stops completely. The whole ride weighs about 26,000 kilograms. It spins at 6 rotations per minute (rpm).

The Story Behind the Ride

The ride has an awesome ancient Egyptian theme. You plunge 25 meters (about 84 feet) into the giant jaws of a crocodile god. This god is named Sobek. He was once a protector of the Nile River.

But now, evil spirits have taken over Sobek. They have made him cruel. The Nile River, which used to be full of life, is now still and quiet. Riders must join a special ceremony. You plunge into Sobek's soul to banish the evil spirits. This helps free the waters back into the Nile River.

The ride has its own special music. It was created by Nick Hutson.

Height Rules

To ride Croc Drop, you need to be at least 1.2 meters (about 3 feet 11 inches) tall.

  • If you are between 1.2 meters and 1.3 meters tall, an adult (over 16 years old) must ride with you.
  • If you are 1.3 meters (about 4 feet 3 inches) or taller, you can ride by yourself!

History of Croc Drop

Croc Drop opened in 2021. It replaced an older ride called Rameses Revenge. Plans for this new ride started in 2019. It was a big investment for the park.

Croc Drop is the second ride of its kind in Britain. The first one is called Magma at Paultons Park. Croc Drop is also one of the newest big rides at Chessington. Before this, the park added Zufari and Kobra. In 2018, another ride, Dragon Falls, was updated and renamed Tiger Rock.

The Name Challenge

In 2020, a shoe company called Crocs tried to stop Chessington from using the name "Croc Drop". They thought it was too similar to their brand. However, the UK Intellectual Property Office decided that Chessington could keep the name. So, the ride kept its cool name!
