Crocothemis is a group of colorful dragonflies. They belong to a family called Libellulidae. These dragonflies are found in many parts of the world. You can see them in southern Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Southwest Pacific. They are usually small to medium-sized.
One cool thing about `Crocothemis` dragonflies is their bright colors. Male dragonflies are often very vibrant. Some are completely red. Others, like the Crocothemis nigrifrons from Australia, are a rich blue. Female dragonflies are usually less colorful. They tend to be dull brown or orange.
These dragonflies like to rest on things. They often perch on sticks, reeds, or stones. They choose spots near water. From their perch, they fly out to catch insects. Then, they return to the same spot to rest.
