Croweburg is a small community in Crawford County, Kansas, United States. It is called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it's not an officially organized town or city. In 2020, about 92 people lived there.
History
Croweburg started as a stop on an electric train line called the Joplin & Pittsburg. The community got its name from the Crowe Coal Company. It was made up of four different coal mining camps. These camps were busy with mining from 1900 to 1940.
For a time, until 1912, Croweburg was known as a "sundown town". This meant that African Americans were not allowed to live there.
A post office opened in Croweburg in 1908. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1972.
