Crumstown is a small place in Indiana, USA. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger LaPorte and St. Joseph counties.

A Look Back: Crumstown's History

Crumstown has an interesting past, even though it's a small community. Let's explore how it began and what life was like there long ago.

How Crumstown Started

Crumstown was first planned out on April 21, 1875. A man named Christian Holler created the original map for a place called Crum's Point. This new community was located right along the Grand Trunk Railroad line.

The name "Crumstown" comes from an early settler named Nathaniel H. Crum. Christian Holler later added more land to the town on January 20, 1882. This new part was in Warren Township. It was close to where the Grapevine Creek and the Kankakee River meet.

Life in Early Crumstown

In the year 1900, Crumstown was a very small community. Only about one hundred people lived there.

A post office was opened in Crumstown in 1875. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1918.
