Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe (born January 20, 1981) is a Canadian actress. She is known for her roles in horror films like Final Destination 3 (2006) and Black Christmas (2006). She also played Rita Haywith in the Hallmark Channel TV series Signed, Sealed, Delivered, which started in 2013.
Early life
Crystal Lowe was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Her mother is Scottish-Canadian and her father is Chinese-Canadian from Hong Kong. When she was young, her family lived in Hong Kong for a few years. Crystal has said that she wanted to be an actress since she was five years old.
Career
Crystal Lowe began her career as a model. Her first acting job was at age 15. She played Nya in an episode of the TV show Stargate SG-1. After that, she appeared in many popular TV shows. These include Psych, Supernatural, and Stargate: Atlantis.
Her first movie role was in 2000 in the film Get Carter. She then acted in the horror movie Children of the Corn: Revelation. In 2006, Crystal played Ashlyn Halperin in Final Destination 3. She also appeared in the movie Black Christmas as Lauren. Later, she starred as Elena in Wrong Turn 2: Dead End.
Crystal also had small roles in big movies like Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Good Luck Chuck. In 2010, she was Zoe in the movie Hot Tub Time Machine. She also played Vala in the TV show Smallville.
From 2012 to 2013, Crystal had a main role as Toby Nance in the series Primeval: New World. In 2014, she started playing Rita Haywith in the Hallmark series Signed, Sealed, Delivered. This show later became a series of TV movies.
In 2015, Crystal tried something new. She directed a short film called Becoming Sophie. This film was shown at film festivals. In 2017, she played Sarah Albans in the movie Wonder. This film was based on a popular book.
Personal life
On August 8, 2009, Crystal Lowe married Miko Tomasevich. They got married in Vancouver. Crystal and her husband own a restaurant called Hyde Restaurant in Vancouver, British Columbia. Crystal can speak Cantonese fluently.
Awards and nominations
Crystal Lowe has received several awards and nominations for her acting.
- In 2012, she won the Rising Star Award at the Canada International Film Festival for her work in A Little Bit Zombie.
- She was nominated for Best Actress at the UBCP/ACTRA Awards in 2014 for Signed, Sealed, Delivered.
- In 2017, her short film The Curtain won several awards. These included the Award of Excellence for Best Short Film at The IndieFest Film Awards. It also won the Platinum Award for Best Short Film at the LA Shorts Awards.
