Stargate Atlantis is an exciting TV show that takes you on an adventure through space! It's a special show that came from another popular series called Stargate SG-1. The story of Stargate Atlantis begins around the same time as the eighth season of Stargate SG-1. A real scientist named Mika McKinnon helped make sure the science in this show, and another one called Stargate Universe, was accurate.
Discovering the Lost City of Atlantis
In the seventh season of Stargate SG-1, the team was busy trying to find a legendary place called the city of the Ancients. At first, they thought they found it on Earth, hidden under the ice in Antarctica. But this was just a small outpost.
Doctor Daniel Jackson, a smart member of the team, later found the real location of the city. It was the famous lost city of Atlantis! But this Atlantis wasn't on Earth; it was in a completely different part of space, in a place called the Pegasus galaxy.
To reach Atlantis, they needed a very special address for the Stargate. This address was tricky because it required eight "chevrons" to be locked in. Each chevron helps to point to a specific location in space. The seventh chevron was especially important because it showed that the destination was in a different galaxy.
