Rachel Zawadi Luttrell is a Canadian actress. She is most famous for playing Teyla Emmagan in the TV show Stargate Atlantis. This popular science fiction series ran from 2004 to 2009.

Early Life and Talents
Rachel Luttrell was born on January 19, 1971. Her birthplace was Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Her mother was from the Washambala tribe. Her father was Dr. William Leon Luttrell.
When Rachel was five years old, her family moved to Canada. She grew up in Toronto. Her family loved music. Her father was a singer in a famous choir. He taught Rachel how to sing. She also studied ballet and played the piano.
Acting Journey
Rachel Luttrell started her acting career on stage. She performed in big musicals in Canada. These included Miss Saigon and Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She also appeared in other plays.
Later, Rachel moved to Los Angeles to act in movies and TV. She almost stopped acting to study architecture. But instead, she went to study drama in Oxford, England.
In 2004, Rachel got a main role in Stargate Atlantis. She played Teyla Emmagan, a strong warrior leader. She was in almost every episode until the show ended in 2009. Her co-star, David Hewlett, also directed her in a movie called A Dog's Breakfast.
In 2011, Rachel also released a jazz music album. It was called I Wish You Love.
Family Life
Rachel Luttrell married Loyd Bateman in 2007. He used to be a stunt performer. They have two children together. Their son, Caden, was born in 2007. Their daughter, Ridley, was born in 2012.
Rachel has two younger sisters. Her sister Erica Luttrell is also an actress. Her other sister, Amanda Luttrell Garrigus, works in fashion and entertainment.
