A Look Back: Crystal Township's History
This area has an interesting past. In the late 1850s, some Ottawa people moved here from Ionia County, Michigan. The township itself was officially created in 1866.

Crystal Valley: A Historic Spot
Crystal Valley is a small, unincorporated community. It sits right by Crystal Creek. A post office served the community from 1871 until 1954. You can also find the Jared H. Gay house here. It was built in 1861 and is Michigan's oldest log cabin that people still live in today, right where it was first built!
Elmwood: A Community Grows
Elmwood is another part of the township. People first started settling here in 1873. Just a few years later, in 1876, a school was built for the children of the community.
Beanville: A Former Mill Town
Beanville was once a busy place in the township. It was started in 1878 by John Bean, Jr. He built a sawmill and a general store there. This helped the community grow around these important businesses.
