The river has a few different names! Its main name, Cuarto River, means 'Fourth River' in Spanish. Another common name for it is Saladillo. People usually use the name Saladillo for the lower part of the river, especially after it passes through a wet area called the Bañado del Río Saladillo. The original people of the land, the Ranquel Indians, had their own name for it: Cochancharava.
Where Does the Cuarto River Flow?
The Cuarto River doesn't just flow by itself. It's part of a bigger river system! It eventually joins up with another river called the Tercero River. When these two rivers meet, they form a new river known as the Carcarañá River. The Carcarañá River then flows into the Coronda River, which is a branch of the mighty Paraná River. So, the Cuarto River's waters eventually reach the Paraná River, one of South America's largest rivers!
