Culbertson Island is a small island in the far north of Canada. It's one of many islands in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, which is a huge group of islands in the Arctic Ocean. This island is located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada's largest and newest territory.
Culbertson Island is found in Frobisher Bay, a large inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. It's an "offshore island" of Baffin Island, which means it's close to the coast of Baffin Island. Baffin Island is the largest island in Canada. Culbertson Island is located southeast of Iqaluit, which is the capital city of Nunavut.
Island Size and Neighbors
Culbertson Island is about 3 mi (4.8 km) (or 4.8 kilometers) long. It is also about 2 mi (3.2 km) (or 3.2 kilometers) wide. It's a pretty small island!
Because it's part of a large group of islands, Culbertson Island has many neighbors. It is located north-northwest of Gay Island. Other islands nearby include Low Island, Mark Island, McAllister Island, Peak Island, and Precipice Island.
Why is it Uninhabited?
Like many islands in the Canadian Arctic, Culbertson Island is uninhabited. This means no people live there permanently. The Arctic region has a very cold climate, with long, dark winters and short, cool summers. This makes it a challenging place for people to live. However, these islands are important habitats for Arctic wildlife, like polar bears, seals, and various birds.
