Cunninyeuk is a small place, also called a locality, located in the Murray River Council area of New South Wales, Australia. It's a quiet spot in a region known for its wide open spaces and farming.

Where is Cunninyeuk?

Cunninyeuk is found in the western part of a large area called the Riverina. The Riverina is a region in New South Wales famous for its agriculture, especially growing crops and raising livestock. Cunninyeuk is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) east of a town called Dilpurra and about 55 kilometers (34 miles) southwest of Moulamein. These distances show that Cunninyeuk is quite spread out from other towns, which is common in rural Australia.

The Story of Gee Gee Bridge

For many years, a special bridge called Gee Gee Bridge was an important landmark near Cunninyeuk. It was located on Nooroon Road and crossed the Wakool River. This bridge connected Cunninyeuk with a nearby place called Wetuppa.

What is a Heritage Listing?

The Gee Gee Bridge was once on a "heritage register." This means it was considered a very important historical structure. Places or objects on a heritage register are usually protected because they tell us about the past. They might show old building styles or be linked to important events.

Why Was the Bridge Replaced?

Even though it was historic, the Gee Gee Bridge was removed from the heritage list on March 2, 2018. This happened so a brand new bridge could be built in its place. The old bridge was a "timber truss bridge," which means it was made mostly of wood. Over time, old wooden bridges can become less safe or harder to maintain.

The decision to replace it was part of a plan by Roads & Maritime Services. This group works to keep roads and bridges safe and modern. Work on the new bridge started in September 2018, and it opened for use in May 2020. This new bridge helps people travel more easily and safely between Cunninyeuk and Wetuppa.
