Curtis Cornelious is an American politician. He is currently the mayor of Little Elm, Texas. He was first elected as mayor in June 2021. This made him the first Black mayor in Little Elm's history. It was a very important moment for the town.
Curtis Cornelious's Political Journey
Curtis Cornelious started his political career on the Little Elm Town Council. He served in the Place 1 (at-large) seat from 2009 to 2020. When he won in 2009, he became the first African-American person elected to the town council.
Growing Little Elm
During his time on the town council, Little Elm grew very quickly. It became one of the fastest-growing towns in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In just 11 years, the town's population grew from about 3,000 people to 53,000 people. This shows how much the town changed during his time there.
Becoming Mayor
In 2021, Curtis Cornelious decided to run for mayor. He left his town council seat to do this. After the main election in May, he moved on to a special second election called a runoff election in June. He won the runoff election against his opponent, Ken Eaken. Curtis Cornelious was sworn in as mayor shortly after his victory.
