Curtis Cornelious is an American politician. He is the current mayor of Little Elm, Texas. He became mayor in June 2021. This was a big moment for Little Elm. He was the first Black mayor in the town's history.
His Journey in Politics
Curtis Cornelious started his political journey in Little Elm. He served on the Little Elm Town Council. This council helps make decisions for the town. He was a council member from 2009 to 2020. When he won in 2009, he became the first African-American elected to the town council.
During his time on the council, Little Elm grew very fast. It became one of the fastest-growing towns. It is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The town's population grew a lot. It went from about 3,000 people to 53,000 people. This happened in just 11 years.
Becoming Mayor
In 2021, Curtis Cornelious decided to run for mayor. He left his seat on the town council. After the main election in May, he went to a special second election. This is called a runoff election. He won against his opponent, Ken Eaken. Curtis Cornelious was sworn in as mayor soon after.
