Starting His Baseball Days
Curtis Terry went to Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He planned to play college baseball at Georgia State University. However, the Texas Rangers picked him in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB draft. He decided to sign with the Rangers, receiving a $100,000 bonus.
Playing in the Minor Leagues
Terry started his professional career in 2015 with the AZL Rangers. He hit well, showing his skills early on. In 2016, he played for both the AZL Rangers and the Spokane Indians. He continued to improve his batting.
Rising Through the Ranks
Terry spent 2017 and 2018 with the Spokane Indians. In 2018, he had a fantastic season, hitting 15 home runs and getting 60 RBI. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Northwest League that year.
In 2019, Terry played for the Hickory Crawdads and the Down East Wood Ducks. He hit 25 home runs and had 80 RBI across these two teams. This great performance earned him the title of the Rangers' minor league player of the year.
A Break and a Big Step
Terry did not play in 2020 because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he played for the Round Rock Express, a Triple-A team. He continued to hit many home runs, with 22 that season. On June 18, 2021, he achieved a rare feat: he hit for the cycle. This means he hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game.
Making it to Major League Baseball
On July 23, 2021, Curtis Terry was called up to the major leagues for the first time. He made his MLB debut that night for the Texas Rangers. His first MLB hit was a double on August 2. He played in a few games for the Rangers that year.
