Curtis Terry's Baseball Journey

Starting Out: High School and Draft

Curtis Terry went to Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was a talented baseball player there. After high school, he planned to play college baseball at Georgia State University.

But then, something exciting happened! The Texas Rangers picked him in the 13th round of the 2015 MLB draft. This meant he could start his professional baseball career. He signed with the Rangers for $100,000. This money is called a signing bonus.

Playing in the Minor Leagues

Curtis started his professional journey in 2015. He played for the AZL Rangers. This team is in the Rookie-level Arizona League. He hit well, with a .260 batting average. A batting average shows how often a player gets a hit. He also hit 1 home run and had 24 RBI. RBI means he helped his teammates score runs.

In 2016, Curtis played for two teams. He was with the AZL Rangers and the Spokane Indians. The Spokane Indians are in the Class A Short Season Northwest League. He kept hitting well, with 5 home runs and 26 RBI.

Curtis stayed with the Spokane Indians in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, he hit 12 home runs and 30 RBI. In 2018, he had an amazing season! He hit .337 with 15 home runs and 60 RBI. Because of his great performance, Curtis was named the 2018 Northwest League MVP. MVP stands for Most Valuable Player.

In 2019, Curtis moved up to play in full-season leagues. He played for the Hickory Crawdads and the Down East Wood Ducks. He hit a total of 25 home runs and 80 RBI that year. He was even named the Rangers' 2019 minor league player of the year!

Curtis did not play in 2020. This was because the Minor League Baseball season was canceled. It was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Making it to the Major Leagues

In 2021, Curtis was assigned to the Round Rock Express. This team is in the Triple-A West league. He continued to play well, hitting 22 home runs and 75 RBI. On June 18, 2021, Curtis did something special. He "hit for the cycle" with Round Rock. This means he got a single, a double, a triple, and a home run all in one game!

On July 23, 2021, Curtis got a big promotion. He was called up to the major leagues for the first time! He made his MLB debut that night. He played as the designated hitter against the Houston Astros. A designated hitter is a player who only bats and does not play a defensive position.

Curtis had a tough start in the MLB. He didn't get a hit in his first 20 tries. But on August 2, he got his first MLB hit. It was a double! Overall, in 2021, he hit .089 with 1 RBI for the Texas Rangers. On November 5, 2021, Curtis became a free agent. This means he could sign with any team.

Life in Independent Baseball

On November 30, 2021, Curtis signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins. He played in 80 games for the St. Paul Saints. This team is in Triple-A. He hit 10 home runs and had 32 RBI. He was released by the Twins in August 2022.

In 2023, Curtis signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization. But he was released in March. Then, on April 15, 2023, Curtis joined the Gastonia Honey Hunters.
