They lived there in 1866 while Custer was stationed at Fort Riley.
Visiting the Custer House Museum
The Custer House is open to visitors during the summer months. You can explore this historic home from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It is located at #24, Sheridan Avenue. The museum welcomes guests from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, it is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Planning Your Visit
There is no charge to enter the Custer House. However, donations are always welcome to help support the museum. If you want to visit outside of the regular summer hours, you can arrange a tour. Just contact the Fort Riley Cavalry Museum nearby to set it up.
Since the museum is on an active U.S. Army base, there are a few rules for visitors. Everyone aged 16 and older needs to show a photo ID. This can be a state-issued driver's license or another federal ID. Make sure to bring it with you for easy access.
