Cutzamala de Pinzón is a city in Mexico. It is the main town of the Cutzamala de Pinzón Municipality. This city is located in the state of Guerrero, in the far northwestern part. It sits right on the border with the state of Michoacán. In 2020, about 4,717 people lived in Cutzamala.

What's in a Name?
The name Cutzamala comes from the Nahuatl language. It means "Place of Rainbows." The word cutzamallot means "rainbow." People who spoke Purepecha also called it "Apatzingani," which means the same thing. Another idea is that the name comes from the Nahuatl word cutzamatl, meaning "weasel."
A Look at History
Early Battles
The first battle in the Tierra Caliente region happened in Cutzamala in 1810. Later, in 1860, during the Reform War, Cutzamala was surrounded. A large group of 4,500 soldiers attacked the town. This event is known as the Siege of Cutzamala. The attacking soldiers eventually won control of the town.
A Local Hero
Eutimio Pinzón is seen as a hero in Cutzamala. He was a general who defended the town in 1874. This was during the Second French Intervention in Mexico.
