Cylon facts for kids
The Cylons are fictional robots from the science fiction TV show Battlestar Galactica. They are a big part of the story, acting as both enemies and sometimes allies to humans.
The Cylon Story
The Cylons were first created by humans from the Twelve Colonies. These Colonies were like different planets where humans lived. Humans built the Cylons to be their workers and soldiers. However, the Cylons eventually rebelled against their creators. They fought a long and terrible war against the humans.
After this war, the Cylons disappeared for many years. They went away and changed. Some Cylons even learned to look exactly like humans. Forty years later, the Cylons returned. They launched a surprise attack that nearly wiped out all the people in the Twelve Colonies. The few humans who survived had to flee in many ships. The main story of Battlestar Galactica follows these survivors as they search for a new home.
Different Kinds of Cylons
There are several types of Cylons, each with a different role.
Skinjob Cylons
- Skinjob Cylons look exactly like normal people. It is very hard to tell them apart from humans.
- There are only twelve different "models" or looks for these Cylons. This means many Skinjobs share the same face.
- Even though they might look the same, Cylons of the same model do not always act the same. They can have different personalities and beliefs.
Centurions
- Centurions are large, metal robots covered in armor.
- Humans sometimes call them "toasters" because their shiny armor looks a bit like a toaster.
- Centurions are built for fighting and hard work.
- They are the only type of Cylon that is not truly "alive" in the same way as Skinjobs or Raiders. They are more like traditional machines.
Cylon Raiders
- Cylon Raiders are small ships used for fighting other ships.
- What makes them unique is that the ship itself is actually a type of living creature.
- This means the Raider can think and learn, making it a very dangerous enemy in space battles.
