Cyril Hume (born March 16, 1900 – died March 26, 1966) was an American writer. He wrote many novels and movie scripts. He is famous for writing the science fiction film Forbidden Planet in 1956.

Cyril Hume went to Yale University. While there, he helped edit the school's humor magazine, The Yale Record. He also helped put together a book of poems from the magazine.

Just one year after college, Hume was a young reporter. He worked for the New York World newspaper. Even then, he wrote his first novel, Wife of the Centaur. It was published in 1923. He sold the movie rights for a lot of money, which was a record at the time.

Cyril Hume wrote scripts for 29 films. His career as a screenwriter lasted from 1924 to 1966. He worked on many popular movies.
