Cyrus Prindle (born April 11, 1800 – died December 1, 1885) was an important American who worked to end slavery. He was also one of the people who helped start the Wesleyan Church.

Cyrus Prindle was born in Canaan, Connecticut. He became a minister in the New York conference in 1821.

Fighting for Freedom

Cyrus Prindle strongly believed that slavery was wrong. People who believed this were called abolitionists. Because of his strong views against slavery, he was often given less important jobs within his church.

Leaving the Methodist Church

In 1843, Cyrus Prindle and about 100 other ministers decided to leave the Methodist Episcopal Church. They left because the church did not take a strong enough stand against slavery.

Founding the Wesleyan Church

After leaving, Cyrus Prindle and his friends started a new church called the Wesleyan Church. This church was founded on the principle that slavery was a sin and should be abolished. It was a place where people who wanted to end slavery could worship and work together.

Returning to the Methodist Church

Later, when the fight against slavery had made progress, Cyrus Prindle and many of his fellow ministers decided to return to the Methodist Church. They felt their goal had been achieved, and they could now continue their work within the larger church.

Cyrus Prindle passed away in Cleveland, Ohio. He is remembered for his strong beliefs and his efforts to end slavery in America.
