Cárdenas is a cool city in the Mexican state of Tabasco. It's one of the biggest cities in southeastern Mexico. About 80,000 people live in the city itself. The larger area around the city, called the municipality, has over 200,000 people. This area covers about 2,112 square kilometers (815 square miles).

Cárdenas is located in the northwestern part of Tabasco. It's near the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The city is east of Coatzacoalcos, which is another city in the state of Veracruz. Cárdenas is the main city for the area known as Cárdenas Municipality.

Cárdenas has a warm and humid climate. It often feels hot and sticky, especially in the summer. The area gets a lot of rain throughout the year. This is common for places near the Gulf of Mexico.
