History of the Group
The group first appeared on Ice Cube's first solo album, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. Back then, the name "Da Lench Mob" referred to all the artists on the album, including Ice Cube. At first, the name was even spelled "The" instead of "Da" on the album cover.
First Album and Popularity
With Ice Cube helping as the executive producer, Da Lench Mob released their first album, Guerillas in tha Mist, in 1992. At this time, the main members of the group were J-Dee, Shorty, and T-Bone. Their pictures were even on the album cover.
The music video for the album's main song, also called "Guerillas in tha Mist", became very popular in 1992. This song was later featured in the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, playing on a made-up radio station called Radio Los Santos.
Changes and Later Years
In 1993, J-Dee left the group. Instead of stopping, the group welcomed a new rapper named Maulkie. Maulkie was from South Los Angeles and had been part of another group called Yomo & Maulkie. With Maulkie, Da Lench Mob released their second album, Planet of da Apes, in 1994. The group broke up shortly after this album.
Shorty, one of the original members, passed away on June 16, 2019. J-Dee was released in 2021.
