Dabney is a small, unincorporated community located in Otter Creek Township, Ripley County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. An unincorporated community is a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
History of Dabney
Dabney has an interesting past! This community was first known by a different name: Poston. It was officially started, or "laid out," in the year 1855.
A post office, which is a place where mail is sent and received, was opened in Poston in 1856. Later, in 1897, the name of the post office, and therefore the community, was changed to Dabney. The Dabney post office continued to serve the area until it closed down in 1934.

Dabney is located in a specific spot within Ripley County. You can find it along a railroad line. It is about 2.5 miles (or 4.0 kilometers) northeast of another community called Holton.
