The Story of Dacusville

Dacusville got its name from a man named Archibald Dacus. He was born in Virginia in 1769. Later, he moved to South Carolina with his family.

Archibald Dacus set up a trading post. This was a place where people could buy and sell goods. His trading post was on an old Indian Road. This road went through Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and into Georgia.

People like Native Americans, travelers, and local folks would trade at his post. It was even a stop for stage coaches, which were like old-time buses. Some say the area was first called "The Trap."

There had been a post office nearby since the time of the Revolutionary War. Archibald Dacus started running the post office from his trading post. Because of him, the place became known as "Dacusville."
