Playing for Clubs

Daisuke Ichikawa started his football journey in the youth system of Shimizu S-Pulse. He was a very talented player. He often played as a right side-back or a right midfielder.

Early Career at Shimizu S-Pulse

Daisuke made his first big league game in the J1 League on March 21, 1998. He was still a high school student at the time. Later that year, on November 14, 1998, he scored his first goal in the league.

He was a key player for Shimizu S-Pulse. He helped his team win the second stage of the 1999 J1 League. They also won the 1999–2000 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. In 2001, his team won the 2001 Emperor's Cup. Daisuke was known for his strong attacks from the right side of the field. He worked well with Alessandro Santos on the left side. He played for Shimizu S-Pulse until the end of the 2010 season.

Later Club Teams

After leaving Shimizu S-Pulse, Daisuke played for several other teams. In 2011, he joined Ventforet Kofu. He then played for Mito HollyHock in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, he was with Fujieda MYFC. In 2015, he played for FC Imabari. His last team was Vanraure Hachinohe in 2016. Daisuke Ichikawa retired from playing football at the end of the 2016 season.

Playing for Japan

Youngest Player and World Cup Dream

He made his first game for the senior national team on April 1, 1998. He was only 17 years and 322 days old. This made him the youngest player ever to play for Japan at that time. Daisuke was considered for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. However, the national coach, Takeshi Okada, decided not to pick him for the final team.

2002 FIFA World Cup

In March 2002, Daisuke was called back to the national team. This was four years after his first game. He was chosen to play in the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. He played in three games during the tournament. In a group stage match against Tunisia, Daisuke made a great cross. His teammate, Hidetoshi Nakata, headed the ball into the goal. This was Japan's second goal in that game. Between 1998 and 2002, Daisuke played ten games for Japan. He did not score any goals for the national team.
