Daisuke Ichikawa (born May 14, 1980) is a famous Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a defender, which is a player who helps protect their team's goal. Daisuke played for many clubs in Japan and also represented the Japanese national team.

Playing for Clubs

Daisuke Ichikawa started his football journey at Shimizu S-Pulse. He grew up playing in their youth system. He was a right-sided player, meaning he played on the right side of the field. He could play as a defender or a midfielder.

Daisuke made his first professional league game on March 21, 1998. He was still a high school student when he scored his first goal later that year. He helped Shimizu S-Pulse win important titles. These included the second stage of the 1999 J1 League. They also won the 1999–2000 Asian Cup Winners' Cup and the 2001 Emperor's Cup.

Daisuke was known for his strong attacks from the right side of the field. He worked well with another player, Alessandro Santos, who attacked from the left. This made Shimizu S-Pulse a very strong team. He played for Shimizu S-Pulse until the end of the 2010 season.

After leaving Shimizu S-Pulse, Daisuke played for several other clubs. He played for Ventforet Kofu in 2011. Then he joined Mito HollyHock in 2012. From 2013 to 2014, he played for Fujieda MYFC. In 2015, he was with FC Imabari. His last club was Vanraure Hachinohe in 2016. He decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2016 season.

Playing for Japan

Daisuke Ichikawa also played for the Japanese national team. He played for Japan at different age levels before joining the main team. He made his first game for the senior national team on April 1, 1998. He was only 17 years and 322 days old at the time. This made him the youngest player ever to represent Japan.

Daisuke was considered for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. However, the national coach decided not to include him in the final team.

In March 2002, Daisuke was called back to play for Japan after four years. He was chosen to play in the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. He played in three games during that tournament. In a game against Tunisia, his pass helped Hidetoshi Nakata score Japan's second goal. Daisuke played a total of ten games for Japan between 1998 and 2002. He did not score any goals for the national team.
