Dajabón is a city and the capital of the Dajabón province in the Dominican Republic. It is located in the northwest part of the country, right on the border with Haiti. Dajabón is a busy market town with about 26,000 people. It sits north of the Cordillera Central mountain range.
The city is built along the Dajabón River. This river is also known as the Massacre River. This name comes from an event in 1728. During that time, Spanish settlers had a conflict with French Buccaneers. The name also became well-known after a sad event in 1937. Thousands of Haitians were killed by the Dominican Army during this time.
