Her Early Life and Football Start
Dakota Davidson grew up in Ipswich, Queensland. Her family has Indigenous Australian heritage, specifically from the Gunditjmara people. She spent a lot of her childhood playing sports. She often played on the fields near Limestone Park in central Ipswich.
Dakota went to Ipswich Girls' Grammar School. She started playing Australian rules football when she was 18. Her father encouraged her to play. He knew the sport well from growing up in western Victoria. Dakota's first team was the University of Queensland. This team plays in the AFL Queensland Women's League.
After playing for three seasons, the Brisbane Lions noticed Dakota's talent. She was a strong forward and ruck player. She kicked 11 goals in 11 games. The Lions then picked her in the 2019 AFL Women's draft. She was the 60th player chosen.
Playing for the Brisbane Lions
Dakota Davidson made her AFLW debut in 2020. Her first game was for the Brisbane Lions against Adelaide. This match took place at Hickey Park on February 8, 2020.
In the 2021 AFL Women's season, Dakota had a fantastic game against Gold Coast. She kicked four goals, helping her team win by 63 points. She also played a key role in the preliminary final against Collingwood. She kicked three goals in that game. This helped the Lions reach the 2021 AFL Women's Grand Final.
Dakota signed a new contract with the Brisbane Lions in June 2021. This meant she would play for them for two more years.
