Playing Career
Starting with the Indiana Pacers
Dale Davis was chosen by the Indiana Pacers in the 1991 NBA draft. He was the 13th player picked overall. He played his first nine years with the Pacers. Dale quickly became the team's main power forward. He was a very important player for the Pacers in the mid-1990s. He often scored double-digit points and grabbed almost double-digit rebounds in games. When he left the Pacers, he was the team's all-time leader in rebounds during their NBA history.
Moving to Other Teams
After the 1999–2000 season, Dale Davis was named an NBA All-Star. The Pacers also made it to the NBA Finals that year. The team then decided to get younger players. They traded Dale to the Portland Trail Blazers. In return, the Pacers received Jermaine O'Neal and Joe Kleine. Jermaine O'Neal later became a star player for the Pacers.
Dale played for the Blazers for four years. He continued to have similar stats, usually around 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. He played 313 games for the Blazers and started 235 of them.
On July 20, 2004, the Blazers traded Dale and Dan Dickau to the Golden State Warriors. They received Nick Van Exel in return.
On February 24, 2005, Dale was traded again. He and Speedy Claxton went to the New Orleans Hornets for Baron Davis. Dale was then released by the Hornets. He signed with his first team, the Pacers, on March 4, 2005. He immediately started playing because Jermaine O'Neal was injured. In one game against the Blazers, he scored one point, grabbed seven rebounds, and blocked two shots.
In the 2004–05 season, Dale started all 25 games he played for the Pacers. He averaged 6.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.32 blocks per game.
