The Dalhousie Arts Centre is a special building at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It has many theatres, an art gallery, classrooms, and even a sculpture garden. It is a very important place for performing arts in Halifax.
The centre officially opened in November 1971. It is also where the Fountain School of Performing Arts is located. This school teaches students about music, theatre, and dance.
The building's cool, modern design was created by C.A.E. Fowler & Company. A Japanese educator named Junji Mikawa helped a lot with the design. The inside look was mostly done by Andy Lynch. He got ideas from the famous architect Alvar Aalto.

Performance Spaces at the Arts Centre
The Dalhousie Arts Centre has several different spaces where shows and concerts happen. Each space is designed for different types of performances.
Rebecca Cohn Auditorium: Main Concert Hall
The Rebecca Cohn Auditorium is a large concert hall and theatre. It has 1,023 seats. This is the biggest theatre in Halifax with comfortable seats. It is the main home for Symphony Nova Scotia, a professional orchestra.
Joseph Strug Concert Hall: New Music Space
The Joseph Strug Concert Hall is a smaller hall with 300 seats. It is used for chamber music, which is music played by a small group of musicians. This hall opened in 2023 as part of a big update to the building.
Sir James Dunn Theatre: Classic Stage
The Sir James Dunn Theatre has 198 seats. It is a proscenium theatre, which means it has a traditional stage with an arch around it, like a picture frame. It has sloped seating, so everyone can see the stage well. It also has a special system called a fly tower to move scenery up and down.
David Mack Murray Studio Theatre: Flexible Space
The David Mack Murray Studio Theatre is also called Studio 1. It has 80 seats and is a "black box theatre." This means it's a simple, dark room that can be set up in many different ways for plays or performances. It has a special grid and catwalks for lights and equipment.
Elsie MacAloney Room: Recitals and Talks
The Elsie MacAloney Room is a hall with 90 seats. It is used for lectures, which are talks, and recitals, which are musical performances.
There was also an open-air rooftop theatre, but it is now closed. All the main performance spaces are named after people who gave money to help build or support the centre.
