Damian Hollis was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His dad, Essie Hollis, was also a basketball player. When Damian was young, basketball was not his first sport. He started with soccer and baseball. He was very good at both of those sports.
Damian started getting really good at basketball around age 14. He worked with his father, who played in the NBA for one year. His dad also played in Europe for 14 years. By high school, Damian had stopped playing soccer. He had to choose between baseball and basketball. Baseball felt easier for him, but basketball was more exciting. So, he decided to focus on basketball for college.
Damian went to J. P. Taravella High School. He was a starter on the basketball team for four years. He was also named the team's Most Valuable Player three times. In his last year, he scored about 22 points per game. He also grabbed over 10 rebounds and made more than 3 assists per game.
College Basketball Journey
After high school, Damian wanted to play college basketball. His dream school was North Carolina. He received scholarship offers from about 100 different colleges. But North Carolina was not one of them.
As time passed, Damian thought North Carolina would never offer him a spot. So, he decided to join George Washington University. At that time, George Washington was ranked third in the country. A few days later, a coach from North Carolina called him. They wanted to offer him a scholarship! But Damian had already promised to go to George Washington. He felt sad about this for a few weeks. However, he kept his promise to George Washington University.
