Dampierre was once a small commune (a type of local district or town) located in the Calvados area of Normandy, a region in northwestern France. It was a quiet place with a small number of people living there.
On January 1, 2017, Dampierre joined with other nearby communes to form a larger, new commune called Val de Drôme. This means Dampierre no longer exists as a separate commune but is now part of a bigger community.
Life in Dampierre
Dampierre was a small rural commune, meaning it was mostly countryside with farms and open spaces. Its history is tied to the local area of Calvados, known for its beautiful landscapes and traditional French villages.
Population Changes Over Time
Like many small towns, the number of people living in Dampierre changed over the years. In 1962, about 234 people lived there. By 1999, the population had decreased to around 121 people. In 2008, it was 116, and by 2019, just before it merged, about 133 people called Dampierre home. These changes show how small communities can grow or shrink over time.
