Starting His Journey
Dan Furey began teaching dance classes in the 1930s. At first, he taught only in his local area. Soon, his reputation grew, and he started teaching all over West-Clare. He often traveled by bicycle to reach his students!
Many primary schools invited him to give dance lessons. This helped his fame as a dance teacher and fiddler spread even further.
Dancing Around the World
By the 1980s, Dan Furey was so well-known that he was invited to teach in other countries. He traveled to Great Britain and the United States to share his love for Irish dance.
His Dancing Spirit
In 1993, Dan Furey became ill and was taken to Ennis General Hospital. Even in the hospital, his passion for dance was clear. He continued to dance, even while in bed! His dedication was so strong that during the Willie Clancy Summer School in July 1993, a group of musicians left the school to organize a special music session just for him.
