Early Life and Moving to the U.S.
Danay García was born in Havana, Cuba. She started learning ballet at the Debby Allen Dance Academy. At the same time, she continued her acting studies. When she was 15, she decided to focus more on acting than dancing. At age 20, she moved to the United States with her young son, who was 18 months old. To help people understand her better, she took special classes to improve her English accent.
Acting Career Highlights
Danay's first public acting role was the main character in a play called Maria Antonia. This was a Havana theatre production when she was 17 years old. Her first movie role in the U.S. was alongside actress Marisa Tomei in the film Danika.
Early TV and Movie Roles
García appeared in popular TV shows like CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. She also acted in the movie From Mexico with Love. Her big break came when she got a regular role as Sofía Lugo in the TV series Prison Break. This show was even shown in Cuba, so her family could watch her work.
Later Projects and Directing
During a writers' strike in 2007, Danay almost became a Bond girl in the movie Quantum of Solace. However, she couldn't take the role because of her contract with Fox. In 2009, she played Anna in the TV series The Cleaner. She also appeared in the movie Rehab. Danay has also worked behind the scenes as a co-writer, co-creator, and producer for TV and film projects.
She later played Coqui in the drama Liz in September, which was filmed in the Caribbean Islands. After that, she got the main role of Monica in the comedy movie Man Camp.
Since 2016, Danay García has played Luciana Galvez in the AMC horror drama series Fear the Walking Dead. She also made a guest appearance in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 in 2017. In 2023, she also directed an episode of Fear the Walking Dead called "Anton".
