Dancesport is a type of competitive ballroom dancing. It's different from dancing just for fun or for a show. In some cases, like wheelchair dancesport, one or both dancers use a wheelchair.
Dancesport events are organized and controlled by special groups. These groups work at both national and international levels. One important group is the World DanceSport Federation.
The name "Dancesport" was created for a special reason. It was hoped that competitive ballroom dancing could become an Olympic sport. Scientists have even studied how much physical effort dancesport requires.
