The Story So Far
The first book in the series introduced us to Henry and the amazing secret of the cupboards. These cupboards are actually magical doors to other worlds! In Dandelion Fire, much of the adventure takes place in these new, mysterious lands.
Henry's New Challenge
Henry and Henrietta were told not to open any more cupboards. But their curiosity was too strong! One day, while Henrietta was looking for a special skeleton key, Henry was struck by lightning. He lost consciousness and became blind.
Luckily, Henry was not seriously hurt, except for a scar on his hand. Henrietta thought he was pretending. But their friend Richard believed Henry was truly injured. Henry was taken to the hospital, but his symptoms were not typical for a lightning strike.
A Secret Plan and a Kidnapping
Back home, Henry felt strange. A burn on his jaw, from the blood of an evil witch named Nimiane, hurt his head. He decided to find his birth parents. He planned to travel through the cupboards with Richard.
Henrietta overheard their plan and felt betrayed. She wanted to get back at Henry. But before they could act, Henry was kidnapped by Darius, an evil wizard. Henrietta waited for Richard, but then decided to go through a cupboard door herself.
Henrietta's Journey
Henrietta entered a secret realm through a door in her grandfather's room. There, she was captured by two strong men. They took her to Magdalene, the queen of the FitzFaeren people.
The queen asked Henrietta to get back three stolen items from her dead grandfather. If Henrietta refused, she would be held prisoner. These items were important to stop the evil Nimiane. Henrietta bravely escaped the queen by jumping out a window. Cold and hungry, she followed a stream to Eli FitzFaeren's house.
Henry's Escape and Discovery
Darius wanted to brand Henry with his own evil mark. But the surgeon who was supposed to do it felt sorry for Henry. He helped Henry escape. Darius was furious when he found Henry gone. He thought Henry had gone back to Kansas.
Darius then used Richard as a hostage to get Henry back from the Willises. Meanwhile, Henry tried to escape the building through a pipe. He fell from the pipes but woke up in a draped room. A kind couple had rescued him.
After Henry recovered, he went to the post office to return to Kansas through a cupboard. But when he arrived, his family was gone. They had left a note about their departure.
Reunion and Battle
Henry decided to go back through the cupboard to find his family. A fairy named Frank recognized him as the son of a hero named Mordecai. When enemy fairies tried to harm Henry, Frank helped him escape.
Frank took Henry to Caleb, where Henry was reunited with Henrietta and his Kansas family. He learned that his Uncle Frank was actually Caleb’s brother. Henry also met his real mother and grandmother. He found out their city was under attack.
Henry was given a new name, Macabee. This christening gave enough magic to free his true father, Mordecai, from a long spell. But the family reunion was cut short. Frank, Caleb, and Mordecai had to return to battle, knowing Nimiane and Darius were close.
Henry and Henrietta went back to Kansas. They found a magic arrow, a special item their grandfather had stolen. They brought it back to FitzFaeren. Caleb used this arrow to defeat Darius. The book ends with Henry staying with his newfound family in FitzFaeren. They continue to visit Uncle Frank’s family through the cupboards.
