Daniel L. Burrows (born January 23, 1908 – died June 3, 1990) was an American politician from New York. He was elected to the New York State Assembly and served there from 1939 to 1944.

Early Life and Work

Daniel L. Burrows was born in Cape Charles, Virginia. When he was three years old, his family moved to New York City, where he grew up. As an adult, he worked in real estate and as an insurance broker. He also helped start a company called the United Mutual Life Insurance Company.

Political Career

Burrows became very active in politics, especially with a group called Tammany Hall. By 1938, he was chosen to be on the state committee for the Democratic Party, representing the area of Manhattan.

In 1939, Daniel L. Burrows was elected to the New York State Assembly. This is a group of people who make laws for the state of New York. He represented the 19th district and served for several years, until 1944. In October 1939, he was also elected to a leadership role within Tammany Hall.

Family and Legacy

Daniel L. Burrows was married to Elaine. She passed away in 1975. They had two daughters, Gloria and Joyce.

His daughter, Joyce Dinkins, married David Dinkins. David Dinkins later became the Mayor of New York City from 1990 to 1993. This made Joyce Dinkins the city's first African-American first lady.

Daniel L. Burrows passed away on June 3, 1990, at the age of 82. He was receiving treatment for cancer at Calvary Hospital. To remember him, a special tree called a Callery pear was planted at Gracie Mansion, which is the official residence of the Mayor of New York City.
