Daniel Mora's Political Journey
Starting in Politics
Daniel Mora was one of the first members of the Possible Peru party in 2000. This party was led by former president Alejandro Toledo. In the 2000 elections, he tried to become a Congressman but was not elected.
He held several important roles within the Possible Peru party. During Alejandro Toledo's time as president, Daniel Mora worked in the Ministry of Transport and Communication. He was also the head of the National Intelligence Council from 2003 to 2004. Later, from 2005 to 2006, he advised the president on how to spread power to different regions of Peru.
Serving as a Congressman
In the 2011 elections, Daniel Mora was elected to the Congress. He represented the Constitutional Province of Callao. On July 28, 2011, the new president, Ollanta Humala, chose him to be the Minister of Defense. This happened because of an agreement between Possible Peru and Humala's party. He left this role on December 11, 2011, when the government changed some of its ministers.
During his time in Congress, he started to move away from the Possible Peru party. In August 2013, he led the Education Commission in Congress. He proposed a new law called University Law 30220. This law brought big changes to universities in Peru. It also created a new organization called the National Superintendence of Higher University Education (SUNEDU).
After Congress
In 2016, Daniel Mora helped start the Purple Party, led by Julio Guzmán. In September 2020, he joined a political group called the Patriotic Front. This group was connected to Antauro Humala. However, he later left the Patriotic Front after the removal of President Martín Vizcarra.
