Daniel Scott Purvis, born on November 13, 1990, in Crosby, England, is a Scottish former top gymnast. He was a three-time British champion in men's artistic gymnastics. Daniel trained at Southport YMCA with coaches Jeff Brookes and Andrei Popov. He was part of the first British men's team to win a medal at a World Championships in 2015.

Junior Successes
As a young gymnast, Daniel Purvis showed great promise. In 2006, he placed fourth with the Great Britain team at the Junior European Championships in Greece. Two years later, in Lausanne, he helped the British team win a gold medal. He also won an individual silver medal in the all-around competition at the Junior European Championships that year.

2010: British Champion and First Medals
In 2010, Daniel Purvis became the British men's all-around champion. That same year, he competed at the European Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham, UK. There, he earned a silver medal with the British team and a bronze medal for his floor exercise. Later, at the World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he won another bronze medal on the floor.
2011: All-Around Success
Daniel Purvis won the British all-around title again in 2011. He earned a bronze medal in the all-around competition at the European Gymnastics Championships in Berlin, Germany. He also won the 2011 FIG World Cup Event in Glasgow.
At the World Championships in October, the British men's team faced challenges in the early rounds. Despite some mistakes from his teammates, Daniel performed very well. He was consistent in every event and qualified for the all-around finals. He finished fourth in the all-around, just missing a medal. His strong performances throughout the year made him the overall winner of the World Cup Series in 2011.
2012: Olympic Team Bronze
Because the British men's team did not qualify for the Olympics at the World Championships in Tokyo, they had another chance at the Olympic Test event in London in January 2012. Daniel Purvis again performed strongly, helping the team qualify for the Olympics. Their score at this event would have placed them fourth in the team finals if they had achieved it in Tokyo. Daniel also had the highest all-around score at the event.
In May, Daniel led the British team in qualifying for the European Championships in Montpellier. Even though he had been ill, he rallied after a fall on vault. He went on to qualify with the highest all-around score. The team then won Britain's first team gold medal in the finals. At the London Olympics, Daniel was part of the British men's team that won a bronze medal. This was a historic achievement for British gymnastics.
2014: Commonwealth Games Gold
From May 19–25, 2014, Daniel Purvis competed at the European Championships in Sofia. He and his teammates won a silver medal for Team Great Britain. In the individual event finals, Daniel won a bronze medal on the floor exercise.
At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Daniel had great success representing Scotland. He won a gold medal on the parallel bars and a bronze medal on the rings. He also helped Scotland win a silver medal in the men's team event.
2015: World Championships Silver
Daniel Purvis was part of the British men's team at the 2015 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Montpellier. There, he won his second European all-around bronze medal.
Later in 2015, Daniel competed for Great Britain at the World Gymnastics Championships. He performed solid routines on all six events, helping the team qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. He also qualified third for the men's all-around final. On October 29, the British team completed all 18 routines without any falls. Daniel and Max Whitlock performed magnificently on the floor, helping to secure the team's final score. The team, including Daniel, became the first British men's team to win a medal at a World Championships, earning a silver medal. Two days later, Daniel competed in the all-around final and finished seventh. He also competed in the floor final, where he finished fifth.
2016: Starting a Gymnastics Club
In 2016, Daniel Purvis opened his own gymnastics club called Dan Purvis Gymnastics. The club is based in Netherton and Southport. Its first sessions began on November 1, 2016.
2017: Retirement from Gymnastics
Daniel Purvis announced his retirement from competitive gymnastics on February 18, 2017.
2018: Commonwealth Games Medals
Even after retiring from elite competition, Daniel Purvis competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze medal on the floor exercise. He also helped Scotland win a bronze medal in the team event.
2020: Hall of Fame Induction
In January 2020, Daniel Purvis was honored for his achievements. He was inducted into the British Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
