The Daniel R. and Sophia G. Page House is a special old building in Iron County, Utah. It was built way back in 1900. This two-story house is the main building on what was once the large Page Ranch.
It's the only building on the ranch that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as an important historical site in the United States. You can find this house on Pinto Road, which is also known as Forest Service Road NF-009. It's located east of the small towns of Pinto and Hamblin, and also east of State Route 18.
The Historic Page House
The Page Ranch has a long history, going all the way back to 1858. That's when Daniel Page's grandfather, Robert Richey, first settled the land. The Daniel R. and Sophia G. Page House was designed by the people who owned the ranch at the time, Daniel Richey Page and his wife, Sophia Geary Page.
How It Was Built
Building the house started in 1898. The builders were Jack and Harvey Fabian. What's really cool is that they made the bricks right there on the ranch! They used clay that they found just west of where the house stands. This shows how resourceful people were back then.
What Was Its Purpose?
Once it was finished, the house was more than just a home. It became a helpful stop for people traveling through the area. It also provided a place for miners to stay. These miners worked in the nearby mines. The Richey and Page families owned the ranch and the house until 1934.
The House Today
As of 2017, the Daniel R. and Sophia G. Page House is still standing. However, it is empty and no one lives there anymore. Its windows and doors have been covered up with boards to protect it. Even so, it remains an important reminder of Utah's history.
