Danny Ray Thompson (born October 1, 1947 – died March 12, 2020) was an American musician. He was a talented jazz saxophonist, especially known for playing the baritone saxophone. Danny Thompson was a very important member of the Sun Ra Arkestra, a famous and unique jazz band. He even helped manage the band for a period of time!

Early Life and Music

Danny Thompson was born in New York City. He loved music from a young age. He became a skilled saxophone player. His musical journey led him to join the Sun Ra Arkestra. This was a big step in his career.

Joining the Sun Ra Arkestra

Danny Thompson made his first live performance with the Sun Ra Arkestra in April 1968. This special concert took place at Carnegie Hall, a very famous music venue in New York City. Joining the Arkestra allowed him to travel and perform with the band for many years. He helped create their unique sound.

Later Years

Danny Thompson continued to be involved with music throughout his life. He passed away on March 12, 2020. He was 72 years old. He died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after being ill.
