Daphne Eleanor M Iking, born on July 6, 1978, is a well-known Malaysian television personality. She is also a popular host, often called an emcee, and sometimes acts in movies and TV shows.

Early Life and Education

Daphne was born in Keningau, Sabah, Malaysia. Her mother, Naili Juliah Ganahong, was a nurse, and her father, Mozes Michael Iking, was a policeman and later a banker and politician. Daphne is the second of four children.

She spent some of her childhood in the United Kingdom. In 1988, she moved back to Malaysia and lived in Penampang. Later, she moved to Penang to continue her studies. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in communications from the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang in 2002. In early 2010, Daphne embraced Islam.

Television Career and Achievements

Before becoming a TV star, Daphne worked as a marketing executive. Her first appearance on television was as a model in a Pond's advertisement. The next year, she started co-hosting Ringgit Sense, a finance show on TV3.

Beauty Queen Title

In 2003, Daphne Iking won the beauty queen title of Unduk Ngadau Kuala Lumpur. She then represented Kuala Lumpur at the state level and became the first winner from Kuala Lumpur to win the main title.

Hosting Popular Shows

Daphne quickly became a familiar face when she hosted Explorace in 2004. This reality show was similar to The Amazing Race, and Daphne was known for her energetic personality. She hosted it for two years.

After Explorace, she hosted several other shows, including PNB World Investment Challenge on TV3 and Vector Challenge on 8TV. She also hosted Explorace Kids on TV3 and a health and beauty segment called Health and Beauty Capsule in May/Antabax. Daphne also reported for TV3's factual programs The Brand and Majalah Tiga.

Acting Roles

In 2006, Daphne took on a supporting role as Daphne in the 8TV comedy-drama series KL Lights. She also co-hosted My Australian Adventure, a travel show on TV3, and even helped write the script for it.

Later, she moved to ntv7 and became a host for The Breakfast Show. She also worked as an assistant producer for the show. In 2007, she was a supporting actress in the TV movie Adik and had a small role in the Singaporean drama District 9 Pilot.

Daphne continued her acting career, playing a character in Belukar, a Malaysian independent film released in 2010. For this role, she won the "Most Promising Actress" award. In 2010, she also appeared in the local comedy film My Spy.

Daphne Iking has been recognized for her talent. In 2009, she was nominated for "Favourite Television Personality" at the Malaysian Shout! Awards for her work on The Breakfast Show. She received this nomination again in October 2010.

New Ventures and Activism

After four years, Daphne left The Breakfast Show in 2011. She was invited to join an English women's program called "Bella" on ntv7. Daphne also started hosting shows in Malay, stepping out of her usual English-speaking comfort zone. RTM created a new program called “Ekspresi Kreatif D.I.Y Daphne,” where she hosted a show about her love for do-it-yourself (DIY) projects.

As a well-known figure in Malaysian entertainment, Daphne was chosen to host TLC's popular reality show "Say Yes To The Dress Asia" alongside fashion designer Dato' Jovian Mandagie.

In 2019, she shared her personal journey on Astro's Naura Shares. She also guest-hosted with Sheikh Hussin Yee. In August 2019, Daphne co-hosted a 10-episode show called “Girl’s Day Out” with her friend and TV personality, Lisa Surihani, for Astro Naura. This show discussed women's rights in Islam and helped clear up common misunderstandings about Muslim women's roles in society.

Daphne also appeared in the music video for "Sumandak Sabah" by Marsha Milan and Velvet Aduk, alongside other Unduk Ngadau winners.

Personal Life

Daphne Iking married businessman Ryan Chong Yiing Yih in January 2007 in Bali, Indonesia. They had a daughter named Isobel Daniella. The couple later separated in 2009. In 2010, Daphne married entrepreneur Azmi Abdul Rahman.
