Darío Echandía Olaya (born October 13, 1897 – died May 7, 1989) was an important lawyer and Colombian political figure. He was a member of the Colombian Liberal Party. Echandía was born in Chaparral, Tolima. His parents were Vincente Echandía and Carlota Olaya.

Who Was Darío Echandía?
Darío Echandía was the oldest of seven brothers. He studied at Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Senora del Rosario and Colegio de Araujo in Bogotá. In 1917, he earned degrees to become an attorney and a doctor in law. He married Emilia Arciniegas on August 2, 1936. Darío Echandía passed away on May 7, 1989, in Ibagué, Tolima.
A Life in Public Service
Throughout his life, Darío Echandía held many important positions in the Colombian government. He worked as a representative for Tolima and later as a senator. He even became the president of the senate.

- He also briefly served as acting president in 1960 and 1967.
His Legacy
To honor his contributions, the Darío Echandía Library (Biblioteca Darío Echandía) was opened in Ibagué in 1984. This library helps people learn and remember his work.
